Qualcomm Mobile hardware Announcement

Qualcomm announced its latest midrange 7 series chipset for mobile devices with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. While the naming may imply this is a successor to the SD 7+ Gen 2 or SD 7s Gen 2, the new chip slots between the two aforementioned SoCs. SD 7 Gen 3 is fabbed on TSMC’s 4nm process technology and features a 1+3+4 CPU package. The Kryo CPU brings a prime core clocked at 2.63GHz, alongside 3 x performance cores @2.4 Ghz and 4 x efficiency cores @1.8GHz.

Qualcomm claims a 15% improvement in CPU performance and 50% faster Adreno GPU compared to last year’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip. The 7 Gen 3 chip is also stated to offer 20% power savings based on Qualcomm’s tests.

The Qualcomm Hexagon NPU inside the SD 7 Gen 3 should offer 60% faster AI performance per watt over SD 7 Gen 1. The Adreno GPU supports OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP and Vulkan 1.3 APIs.

The new Qualcomm chip also brings support for up to 4K resolution displays at 60Hz refresh rate or FHD+ resolution at 168Hz. It is equipped with a Qualcomm Spectra ISP which can handle up to 200MP main camera modules and record 4K HDR video at 60Hz.

SD 7 Gen 3 is paired with the Snapdragon X63 5G Modem-RF System which ensures up to 5 Gbps download speeds over mmWave and sub-6 GHz bands. The connectivity department also brings support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 standards.

So according to some Antutu tests, it is nearly as powerful as the Snapdragon 888 in GPU power (faster than the 870 graphics). CPU is a match for the 888, and it consumes half the power. Pretty good stuff if you ask me. I've seen the Honor 100 r...

To promote it, they compared it with Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, well it should have been compared with the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 so we can see if there has been improvement with the latest chipset brought up by Qualcomm itself
