are you sure you haven't activated any call restrictions on your mobile?
In your post you don't state that, you don't say you confirmed if they are on or off but you say the phone is bad and that we shouldn't buy it. Hey, you haven't even said if you have gone to SE assistance to repair the phone or to see what is wrong. It seems to me you are saying the phone is bad when it is possible that you are not using it right. I have mine for more than 18months and it always worked JUST perfectly.
Hope You get yours running good so that you can enjoy it as much has I do.

I agree with most of what you have said, except for the part of being java and not having multitasking support. Yes it is java, and yes sometimes we can't find exactly what we want in java but it is multitasking capable. SE phones can handle multiple java apps at the same time with true multitasking. Not like cheaper Chinese phones or Nokia Series 40 phones which can't do that and only have one application at a time.
For example, I always have the walkmate app running to count for my daily steps and at the same time I can have Gps app, games, texting or listening to music. So, I can run more than one Java application at one time.

Dear friends,
A week ago I bought Sony Ericsson W980… (Not actually for me though…) and quite impressed by certain features and also very disappointed by some others… Compared to Nokia 5530, followings are the things that I’ve noticed…
Look and feel
SE W980 wins here… It has dual display… Flap design… Nice touch music buttons… Very cool color effects during music play back… Thin design… etc.. 5530 also has a good look (where my preference stands…) but I think most of the people would find W980 look is more appealing..
Music Quality
Music Quality wise Nokia 5530 wins over W980…! It’s not because SE Walkman series has poor sound quality… It’s mainly because SE W series has pre-defined Music rather than pure music… (Get what I’m saying…?) I mean… Sony people always make their sound out put in order to suit for the high bass and accordingly more distorted sound experience… Most of ordinary people are mislead by this as ‘Great sound’ but actually it is more or less modified sound… Besides, SE W series equalizer is pretty restricted.. (Lesser no of bands… freedom to change each band are pretty limited…) We can modify manual preset but we really can’t fine tune that… However still W980 gave me good Music (with exaggerated bass though) and loudness of Music is also pretty good…
Camera
Camera is great in W980 compared to 5530… Without any modification it took so beautiful natural colored photos… (There is more yellow tint in some photos though…) Even though it doesn’t have a flash, it took considerably better photos than my phone..
Build Quality
Build quality is not so good in W980 compared to 5530 but the back cover is so much better than our poor quality back cover… (Nokia should consider of giving us more durable and good looking rubber back covers…)
Features
Here I think both phones have their own pros and cons… W980 has 3G with video call camera… 8 GB internal memory… 5530 XM has Wifi, bigger screen with greater resolution and greater color (16M vs 256k) & 4 GB out of the box.
Performance
At first, the mobile (W980) hanged and restarted several times… It wouldn’t last for at least 30 minutes without restarting… I was beginning to hate SE W series… But then I just checked for firmware updates and found out there is one available.. Then I updated the phone and now it’s working like a charm… But overall performance wise, My 5530 is way better than SE W980… (I mean 5530 is faster)
Software installation
The last and most important thing… Software installation… In this area, there is no match for Symbian…! SE W980 clearly sucks…! It’s a totally worthless phone if you intend to have so many 3rd party applications in your mobile phone… I searched google but found only JAVA software which don’t even support multi tasking…! So in that case, SE W 980 is no better than very cheap Chinese phones…! (So it definitely is not my choice…)
But after all, the person who is using it (My mother) is very very happy with it.. She has got very cute phone that she always wanted… It’s got video calling… and she can listen to music for so many hours… Camera takes great photos… and the phone doesn’t hang often… and after all, she doesn’t need any 3rd party software at all… So I don’t have to say, it’s the ideal phone for her…
As for the conclusion…, I think when we’re buying a phone, we should always consider what are our needs… without considering our needs, if we’re going to get the best phone out there, it will be completely worthless if we don’t intend to use the best features of it….! So it’ll be always better, if we could find what is best for us… Not the best phones out there…

Hi All,,,
This Phone is just stylish otherwise im have problem with this phone which is very irritating... If anyone from my contact list calls me than this phone remains ok but if some one calls me from numbers other than my contact list than this phone always hangs and even i can not receive calls which is the major fault in this phone. Even after installing its S/W again the problem remains the same.
Its very slim, stylish and good looking phone but this phone have default hang problem. Plz dont buy this phone other wise u,ll waste your money like i did buying this phone...
& My review about this phone is very true...

aaaaaaaaah im really quite sad with the phone because ive had it for about 1 year and its really user friendly and the design is pretty unique, but recently it broke down about 5 times within 2 months!! i had to send it to the sony shop so many times but the problem keeps coming back - the phone screen doesnt switch on..only the keypad lights come on - especially after i try to connect it to the computer!

Good phone in general. It takes a while to start up and for the screen to come on. And it's really really hard to take out the simcard if you wanted to switch it - need to use tweezers or sth, I found it annoying when I was trying to switch a simcard as another phone ran out of battery.
It tends to freeze every now and then, it's usually ok tho, occasionally "reboots" itself.

i think it's a nice and a good phone but the only pb i have with it is the chager,i think sony ericson got to change the power,because sometime is very hard to take charge.fix it please...

Queen of WALKMAN series . This phone has great sound quality . Bass not over powering . Vocal is easy . clear treable . Detail is good . If you want to enjoy max audio quality from it . You must take IEM (In Ear Monitoring) type's for your earphones . ( i use custom equalizer) .
