Those dongles looks life moron octopuses unlike what we've seen in life 2017..
There is no way to defend Sony here. I have spoken out against every manufacturer who removed it and everyone who supported this removal. So, if this is what Sony is planning then I truly am disappointed.
I don't intend to support Sony in this regard and can no longer defend Sony against Samsung if this comes to pass.

This is why wired is ahead of wireless in quality.
LDAC is a tool to minimize the loss that comes with bluetooth data transfer
I'm kind of disappointed with Sony here.
I'm just waiting for miracles. But knowing Sony, they are full of surprises. I don't know what will they do, but I never saw them do something for no good purpose. This thing has to have some good purpose behind it.
Besides, 3.5mm jack are inferior to USB C in audio output, unless you have a dedicated DAC like on the LG V30 and ZTE Axon 7. Sony phones have great audio quality through headphones, but they never really excelled that much as they did in the Z2 days (because others have caught up while Sony stood still, played safe and brought little to no improvements over the period of time). If this thing would help them do better, then I'll not be too hard to try it. There's still a dedicated headphone jack on the dongle, just removed from the phone to save up some free space for maybe larger battery, more waterproof body (IP78 please!), or whatever good benefit. But we'll have to see the actual product.
pt020, 22 Jan 2018Bluetooth does not use much energy, you almost do not notice it. You better get yourself a bet... moreHave the LTE on too amd see if that last 2 days +. I highly doubt your claim. What phone model you using to get that?
Yann, 22 Jan 2018Bad idea.
First, put FPS on the back is horrible idea - side mounted FPS was most convinient ... moreOh man.
Its much better than naming it Sony 8 or Sony 9 Sony X maybe Sony XII and so on.
Like we had E4 E5 M4 M5 etc.
At least they have a lot different names than many other competitors.
Frando The Xperian, 22 Jan 2018I really hope this isn't a sign of Sony's new direction..What direction have they been? Declined.
SohailSays2, 22 Jan 2018Only Samsung and LG are the last hopes if this turns out to be true.I guess you'll see stereo speakers in GS9/9+
People, just relax, read this from last year:
"Speaking to Express.co.uk at the CES technology show in Las Vegas he told us: "There is a lot of merit in headphone jacks.
"If we're talking about improving the audio quality of music coming out of smartphones there are newer balanced jacks that we have developed in Japan.
"It's a different form factor jack but it provides for a better sound quality in Hi-Res Audio.
"So, if we want to continue to improve the sound quality maybe saying goodbye to the headphone jack is not such a great idea - especially on the premium smartphones that will be coming on to the market soon."
I rellay am inclinded to believe 3.5mm is just pushed down to USB C as an option, to make space for 4.4 mm balanced one on the new flag.
I really hope this isn't a sign of Sony's new direction..
Only Samsung and LG are the last hopes if this turns out to be true.
Anonymous, 22 Jan 2018Big mistake.keeping the jack was mistake this is a HUGE STEP FORWARD.
Vic, 22 Jan 2018Such an idiotic trend. Apple makes money with 3.5 mm removal all others keep losing customers.... moreMan be proud Sony finaly makes a good decisinion.
This is first time in my life i like apple because their non jack trend is followed by everyone else :-)
I am sooo glad.
Anonymous, 22 Jan 2018Don't asked why. The reason is Sony need to sell more "Sony Bluetooth headphone". Even though ... moreI have a z5 premium dual. And I used the sony bluetooth brand MDR-EX750BT. Not only it has an excellent audio. But it has an LDAC support. Meanwhile, you don't get LDAC on plugged headphone jack. Unless you buy a very expensive sony headphone jack which people do not buy.
Anonymous, 22 Jan 2018SONY NO DONT DO IT
PLEASE GOD NO
SAMSUNG LG AND SONY WERE SUPPOSED TO KEEP IT
NOW YOU TOO ... moreMan no jack from beggining of this jack era would be better a lot of tears could be saved now its too late.
Soon phones with jack will be only in history books.
