It's just Trump who wants to hold a hand under Apple. Apple would get straight up murdered if Huawei had GMS and was able to sell their phones in the US.

The only reason they banned Huawei is because they would overtake the US smartphone market.

[deleted post]Look at the data. Smartphone shipments dropped across the board due to corona (late 2019 - 2020). Everybody lost, no one benefitted.

As expected. It's a growing market for Huawei inside China (thanks its 1.3B people. GMS prohibited by the CCP for many years inside China anyway), but a rapidly dying everywhere else.
As much as they trying to push their Devices, (for example, buy a Huawei P40+ and get a Y7, P30 Lite, smartwatch, etc. for free in my Country), it doesn't work. It doesn't matter how good the quality of a phone is, if the Software is crippled and you can't find most of your apps. Tinkering around to get GMS work, is NOT what you should do when you are paying huge amount of money. People want a device that works right from the beginning.

It's not specific to Huawei though and is the same for all their competitors in China too. It's mostly cheap loans to encourage investment and also some tax incentives to encourage R&D but it applies to all Chinese tech companies

"... well documented struggles in western markets ..."
Is that true, though? The data presented here is certainly silent on that particular claim. Where is the quarter by quarter data of Huawei phone sales in the western market? I think the author may have conflated Huawei's smartphone division with the 5G infrastructure division - totally different story.

"Covid influenced" is the key phrase here. Sales will decline once the economic weapon virus has been controlled.

Imagine there is no trade war between chinese and US and Huawei have no Ban.
They would eat all competition and competitors like ice cream bathing on the hot sahara desert. Companies which robs its customers like Samsung, LG, HTC, Sony or Apple could close its cell phone bussiness.

When you own largest of factories at cheapest production place in the world with wested interest of local government then you have to be the biggest brand at your homeland.
It's logical that like others they are also struggling outside china. It's surprising that two worlds largest smartphone brands like samsung has less than 1%market share in China and huawei has lesser in india (two biggest smartphone market in the world)

They use vanilla Android with newer Linux kernel compared to Google's offerings. There will not be a entirely new operating system on phones in the near future ( 3-4 years at least ). I was waiting like you, until I read more about HarmonyOS and found amore about what they are doing. All resources are focusing on Huawei Mobile Aps right now. Maybe in 3-4 years you can hope for a new operating system.
