Sony Ericsson W980 Walkman review: 8 gigs of character
It's no news any more that we've been playing with one of the hotties of the season for some time now. Sony Ericsson W980 made a glorious entrance but we're yet to see about the exit. Set to top the Walkman feature phone lineup, W980 carries along 8 GB worth of storage, a 3 megapixel camera and a built-in accelerometer. The touch-sensitive keys and the latest Sony Ericsson feature phone interface add to the excitement. Still not interested? Then try to think of another music phone with a built-in FM transmitter!

ATTENION POTENTIAL BUYERS!! IGNORE THE W980'S CAMERA PICTURES SHOWN IN THIS REVIEW!! They must of had a test version or something because my w980's camera pic's look 10x better, sharp and clear!! not flat dull and crappy looking. Despite not having a zoom, auto focus and flash the quality of the camera is very decent, in fact its comparable it to a Cannon Powershot S1IS 3.2mp camera I have, the cannon is better of course but not by much. I read another review that said the w980 has cheap build quality and I don't agree with this at all, maybe the shiny black plastic can give this impression but it depends how you look at it, I think it looks very stylish. And just try moving your finger up when taking pic's people, its not a big deal. Well that's all I wanted to inform you guys & girls about. I just got this phone today and Ive very impressed so far.. no complaints, its replacing a W850i. Buy this phone!

u can use shake control when the w980 is closed by doing the exact same thing when it is open, exept hold down the play/pause button. holding the button and with the fone facing upwards move your fone up or down to increase/decrease the volume :)

Bought this phone on 1/5/09 and it blew off all ipod devices. Recommended phone for music lovers.

I have w380i . I found some bad crack in it. Its made by itself without any pressure or smth else.
I want to ask is this new model (w980) have same problem like his father ( w380)?
PLZ help me. because actually that cellphone was going dead.

wow, this is one piece of sophisticated music software. I couldn't believe before that even the beta version of the W980 tested on this site had the exact same audio quality as the best ipod. Then recently read another test of a finished released W980 and it's audio levels blew the ipod straight out of the water. So i compared my friends W980 to my iphone, and i have to say that my iphone got smacked in the mouth bigtime. So end of this month i'm getting this phone 4 sure.

The one was talking abot nokia 16 m colors display- nokia doesnt know yet how to produce lively vivid display with precise colors as SE..

Sony Ericsson Walkman phone has ALWAYS have better sound quality than Apple iPod. Even regular Sony Walkman has BETTER sound than iPod.
Apple iPod and iPhone is WAY overrated - they are only for those who want to be trendy but actually clueless...

You must be blind (or drunk). This SE W980 is one of the best looking phone out there on the market. Check out the small detail of the lighted top! Nice touch!!
If you want to talk about small box, Nokia usually come up with that design: N81, N82, even N95. They all look like a brick!

Compare to this gorgeous SE, the N78's feature is definitely NOT worth its ugly looking appearance. After a while, you just want to smash the Nokia and trade it in. SE is better looking and better quality. SE Rocks!!

This is THE best music phone as long as you don't care about the camera function (which I don't - I've take 12 phone photos in the last 3 years). I use a pair of Shure SE530s, and the sound quality has blown me away! iPods and iPhones are for gadget geeks, this phone is for people who are serious abou the quality of their music. No other phone (and most MP3 players) don't even come close....

The bundled earphones HPM-77 are sensational, they make almost any old phone sound different. But the W980 has the extra audio clarity that makes a killer combination. I would say the music becomes "interesting". Sure the iPod may have identical frequency response at the audio port. But its headphones are mediocre.

I suppose when you'll be in one of the cybershot phone forums you'll say the music sucks even though it's speciality is cybershot. As a walkman phone, there's not really much competition. Design maybe could be aproblem for some - that's understandable.
